Welcome to the last race on the Equinics card. Eighteen residencies are represented in this marathon event. The 2008 Equinics gold medal residency (DelPenn National) will be defending. Everyone is probably aware that there are some highly populated residencies, and some that have only a few participants. However, the spirit of the Equinics is determined by the participation of all. If you havent supported a residency, please consider doing so. A lot of time and effort are put in by the mgrs. and co-workers to be able to part of this great experience. Most residencies have contests and prizes. Youll meet people from all over the globe. Plus, youll have fun J Give it a try, I dont think youll be disappointed. Now, lets get on with the breakdown of the race.

1. PLASMATIC(IRE) Great Plains residency 7yo scratch bred horse (Kalanisi x Charismatic x Alleged). The sire seems to be overlooked by many in the sim. He has 100 winners from only 150 progeny; including four stakes winners and three graded winners. As Im writing this, you can breed him for about 65 bps. Now to continuethis 7yo was bred as a 3yo and struggled in the early going of his career just to beat a few horses in each start. Then someone turned the light bulb on and he breaks his maiden and starts picking up some decent checks. The horse is still eligible for NW4L, but has placed in a listed stakes at 16f. Tough row to hoe here, but has stamina.

2. CCCP(FL) Benelux residency 5yo horse out of an E rated mare (Red Bullet x Kayf Tara x Many a Wish). Another excellent example of an owner using bid races to get his horse though conditions and beyond. Once the owner had established this horse could go the distance; allowance and listed stakes were on the table. Back in November of 2009, he planned to enter the Millwood Cup at New South Wales. The horse ran an excellent race against some of the horses entered here. He closed well while finishing third. Since then he has won his last two starts with ease; one being a listed event in Denmark. He will have one more chance to finish the job he took on at NSW.

3. RABISAZ(IRE) E-W Connection residency 6yo scratch bred horse (Barathea x Silver Hawk x Zafonic). He broke his maiden after 6 starts as a 2yo. He kicked around in allowances for awhile as a 3yo and then was dropped into the claiming ranks. He finally bottomed out at 5K, while not being claimed and proceeded to be placed in starter allowance events. After the tag ran out he was able to use his distance ability to eek out checks in high claiming and conditioned allowance events. A consistent bp machine that is starting in his 51st race.

4. SHINE ON THROUGH(AUS) Midas residency 5yo horse out of a G rated mare (Bel Esprit x Swain x Cozzene). A great rags to riches story here. The sire is one that isnt used very often as shown in his 82 progeny over a five year period. This horse is his best to date. One other surprise to his success is the fact that the mare used is open for all to breed and she is only G rated. The horses career started out in maiden claimers and when dropped to the 2K level, he was claimed by the present owner. The other oddity was the breaking of his maiden in a starter allowance race at 16f on turf!! That was the turning point in his career. The horse was then entered in distance allowance races and finally completed conditions by winning a 16f listed stakes event at Vermont. Throughout 2009 the horse has a G2 and two G1 wins; with 1.5 mil in earnings. The owner has rested Shine since November of last year, so his condition is a question mark at present. However, if he is the type that fires after a long layoff, he will be there at the wire.

5. KINGU DAEMONARCH(ENG) Ireland residency This has to be Sabbaths horse J with all the Tetes and Kingus running in the sim. 4yo colt out of an F rated mare (Shirocco x Montjeu x Dynaformer). Bred as a three year old, this colt was destined to run long on the turf as thats what Jerry shoots for in breeding. Jerry also likes to give his horses the best possible chance to win early by bidding races for them; a good strategy. The colt has advanced well with this plan. He has seven wins out of fourteen starts and has one listed victory. The furthest hes been is 14f and that was an easy allowance win. This of course will be a big jump for KD, and whether or not he fairs well, its still only his 15th start.

6. KINGS EASY CHOICE (AUS) Comedy Central residency 5yo scratch bred horse (Redoutes Choice x Easy Goer x Fairy King). He broke his maiden first time out on the turf as a 2yo. After a couple more races on the grass it was decided to try dirt. The brown suited him throughout his 3yo and part of his 4yo season. He also matured at this time to be able to handle a distance, and that is where he picked up a hat-trick. Two of the wins were at top level claimers and he was claimed by his present owner; a very nice claim. In nine races after the claim, the horse won six times. Distance is not a problem here, but SPs are. One lone try last November in a G2 event proved the horse would need to show much more to compete at that level.

7. NEW MONEY(KY) GR simsters residency 4yo colt out of an F rated mare who has three graded winning progeny to date (Mineshaft x Danehill x Fappiano). The colts 2yo season was spent mainly on dirt and was average at best. When he was switched to turf improvement was shown. His 3yo season was the start of what has become a great career so far. After breaking his maiden at 11f on the grass, he has only been OTM once in nine starts. He now has earnings of 2.5 mil, and two G2 victories and has placed in a couple of G1s. His last start was a 16f event in which he wired the field in Kiwi land. Front-runner he is, and we dont see that changing anytime soon. If not pressured up front, he just may be the one to beat.

8. SILVERINO(FR) Ohio residency 6yo horse out of a G rated mare (Trempolino x Silver Deputy x Kris S.). Interesting fact here is that the horses mare only raced once. What makes that all the more intriguing is she broke her maiden at 8f on the turf with an SP82 !! One has to think of what may have been. But lets get back to the career at hand. Silverino was bred late as a 2yo and only had two starts. After turning three the owner waited three months to race him again (March). A good decision as he broke his maiden in that race. Afterwards it took 1 yrs to complete his conditions. By this time it was pretty much concluded that he was a sprinter/miler. That is the story up to date. Going this distance will be a miracle and we hope he comes out of it healthy. Perhaps a try on dirt after this is over would bring some interesting observations? He has never had a start on the brown stuff and may take a liking to it.

9. IN THE HUNT CH(IRE) Minnesota Downs residency 6yo scratch bred horse (Rock of Gibraltar x Irish River x Caerleon). The owner bred this horse very late in 2007, so that his first start was as a 4yo. He broke his maiden immediately at 8f. He went through conditions at an easy pace and established himself as an allowance marathoner. In the last month of his 4yo season the owner tried two listed stakes to see if this horse was ready to step up in class. That proved futile at the time. After the first five races of his horses 5yo season, the owner was eating Tums for breakfast, lunch, and supper. J Finally, things started to pick up, and he went cold turkey with the antacids. From early summer to the end of last year, the Hunt finally broke the 100SP barrier and life looked good. A listed 16f stakes race win in the last event of 2009 will lift the spirits of anyone in the sim. However, the horse will need to do much better then the dull first start of his 6yo season.

10. PORTUGAL THE MAN(IRE) EAAA residency 5yo scratch bred horse (Sadlers Wells x Alydar x Seattle Slew)wow! How about that combo? The horses 2yo season gave us a clue as to his ability, although there was no maiden breakthrough. Then, first start of his 3yo career was a win and his record for consistency has been remarkable after that. In 24 starts after breaking his maiden, the horse has only been OTM twice; and those were 4th place finishes!! Talk about a bp machine. The horse has two G3 wins along with numerous places in stakes. The owner has done a very nice job of keeping the horse on his toes and placing him well. The Man is a fine representative for the residency.

11. HIGH SHERRIFF(IRE) Queensland residency 5yo scratch bred horse (High Chaparral x Dynaformer x Affirmed). Four time winner in 21 starts, with earnings of 1.5K. This will be the horses first attempt at a graded event. Bred as a 3yo and sold at the auction after only three sluggish starts. He started clicking for the present owner soon afterward. Racing conditions are still pending as it is taking a while to reach maturity and class status. As far as distance is concerned; the horse has won a 16f allowance three starts ago. He has one listed victory, but this will be a tough placement with many in here that are proven graded winners.

12. ROASTING CHESTNUTS(SAF) Alpine Turf Club residency 6yo scratch bred horse (Horse Chestnut x Dynaformer x Kris S.) Bred as a 2yo, it took until his 4yo season to get through conditions. Give the owner credit for being patient. At that point the horse showed to be a decent long distance allowance racer. When the steed was in top form and running 100SPs now and then; he managed a listed stakes win at the end of 2008. Now that hes back to allowance company, hes doing rather well. Class is an issue here, but he is representing his residency with honor. Thats what this event is all about.

13. K'S ZARAK(IRE) Sim Hispano residency 6yo scratch bred horse (Giants Causeway x A.P. Indy x Danzig). His 2yo season consisted of three starts on dirt; one in which he broke his maiden. At that point he was rested by the owner for three months into his 3yo season and was started on turf. Ks improvement was readily seen. This was due to the fact that the owner had pushed the horse through conditions by wisely bidding races for him. Most of these races were very short fields and KZ easily beat his competition. What this did in effect was to give the horse confidence and give him enough points to start entering stakes company. Fortunately the other factor involved was KZ was a long distance runner of class and there arent many in the sim; brilliant strategy on the owners part. Three G1 titles are the result. One other note; by not continuously running him in graded race after graded race, the horse kept his competitive edge. Kudos to both horse and owner.

14. STAGE POLE(KY) URC residency - 4yo scratch bred colt (Theatrical x Gone West x Danzig). Bred as a 3yo, it only took four starts to break his maiden at 10f in TZ land. At the present time he has 14 starts and two wins. Distance wont be a factor, but class at present will. He is entered by one of the medium sized residencies and will be proud to represent them here.

15. ONLY CONSOLATION(KY) Hong Kong Racing Club residency 4yo colt out of a G rated mare (Corinthian x Gulch x Sadlers Wells). Owner struggled for a while to find out what this colt was made out of. Finally, in the middle of his 3yo season the colt broke his maiden going 10f on the turf at Norway. Allowance races at 12 and 13f followed in which the colt placed twice. The owner then took a chance and entered him in a 50K claimer in which he won and didnt get claimed. This was probably due to the fact that the SPs werent overwhelming. Starter allowances followed to date in which the colt has two wins and a place. Thats where the colt stands at the moment. The Hong Kong residency is medium sized and if youre looking for a place to join, there are some pretty nice people residing there.

16. NOIRS CORAZON(IRE) NWRC residency 4yo colt out of an H rated mare (Hurricane Run x Swain x Gone West). The colt is the best of three progeny the mare has produced. Present owner claimed him from a maiden event for 50K. It may have been a steal because he broke his maiden at 14f in a decent time for a horse with only 11 starts. The colt proudly represents his residency and is looking forward to gain from the experience.

17. GREAT AWAKENING(IRE) Blazing Saddles residency 4yo scratch bred colt (Galileo x Irish River x Nureyev). Not much back ground on this very nice looking colt. Hes only started eight times with four victories. Lately he has been stabled at Athens, and has won his last two condition races there. The owner has a very nice bred colt and bid most of his races to bring out the best. As to whether hes ready for this company is any ones guess. The colt has no distance problems and if he shows up here, were looking at one to watch for the coming year.

18. CRUSADING ENFORCER(IRE) Vermont residency 4yo scratch bred colt (Montjeu x Kingmambo x Deputy Mininster). Eight wins in fifteen starts and 4.5 mil in earnings. The colt won his second start to break his maiden and went through conditions by winning listed stakes events. After that it was in the big shows that he showed his talent and blood. Three G1 wins running against tough competition and rating #4 in his division at such an early stage in his career; leads one to believe this is the colt of the future. His impressive win two races back in the Millwood Cup at 16f, gives him high marks in this event. He is a fine representative of the Vermont residency.

19. DWIGHT(FR) DelPenn National residency Defending champs bring this 4yo colt out of a G rated mare (Trempolino x El Prado x Blushing Groom). Racing as a 2yo this colt showed promise. Then first start out as a 3yo things started to click. His last two conditions were accomplished by winning the G2 (The Hogwarts) and G1 (Irish Derby) events! He beat a few that are in this race in those. However, its what have you done for me lately that counts. Since the Irish Derby win he has struggled a bit going 12f. In the five races following, he has closed in each and seems to be begging for more distance. That time has come. As to the whether the colt can handle an extra four panels is the million dollar question? Stay tuned.
