Equinics 2010 BTB Articles

Well here we are again for the bi-annual Equinics contest which truly brings the sim together for 1 week of excitement. A chance to represent your residency awaits each of us and winning seems secondary on this day. I have the pleasure of covering THE SASKATCHEWAN G1 All horses, 3 years old -- RESTRICTED TO PARTICULAR OWNERS 8F TURF $1,000,000.

SASKATCHEWAN

Prior to European settlement, Saskatchewan was populated by various indigenous peoples of North America, including members of the Athabaskan, Algonquian, Atsina, Cree, Saulteaux and Sioux tribes. The first European to enter Saskatchewan was Henry Kelsey in 1690, who travelled up the Saskatchewan River in hopes of trading fur with the province's indigenous peoples. The first permanent European settlement was a Hudson's Bay Company post at Cumberland House, founded in 1774 by Samuel Hearne.

Henry Kelsey sees the buffalo on the western plains.

In 1803 the Louisiana Purchase transferred from France to the United States part of what is now Alberta and Saskatchewan. In 1818 it was ceded to the United Kingdom. Most of what is now Saskatchewan, though, was part of Rupert's Land and controlled by the Hudson's Bay Company, which claimed rights to all watersheds flowing into Hudson Bay, including the Saskatchewan, Churchill, Assiniboine, Souris, and Qu'Appelle River systems.

Saskatchewan's economy is associated with agriculture; however, increasing diversification has meant that now agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting together make up only 6.8% of the province's GDP. Saskatchewan grows 45% of Canada's grain. Wheat is the most familiar crop and the one most often associated with the province (there are sheafs of wheat depicted on the coat of arms of Saskatchewan), but other grains like canola, flax, rye, oats, peas, lentils, canary seed, and barley are also produced. Beef cattle production in the province is only exceeded by Alberta. Mining is also a major industry in the province, with Saskatchewan being the world's largest exporter of potash and uranium. In the northern part of the province, forestry is also a significant industry.

Oil and natural gas production is also a very important part of Saskatchewan's economy, although the oil industry is larger. Only Alberta exceeds the province in overall oil production. Heavy crude is extracted in the Lloydminster-Kerrobert-Kindersley areas. Light crude is found in the Kindersley-Swift Current areas as well as the Weyburn-Estevan fields. Natural gas is found almost entirely in the western part of Saskatchewan, from the Primrose Lake area through Lloydminster, Unity, Kindersley, Leader, and around Maple Creek areas.

Saskatchewan's GDP in 2006 was approximately C$45.922 billion,

Population 2006 985,386

Blazing Saddles PREPOSTERAGEOUS(ENG) M Wallace 7/1

otistaylor stable group trained colt by MEDICEAN (GB) x DANEHILL DANCER (IRE) x ROBERTO what more can I write about this colt I have written so much about him in the last year and he has always proved me right. He is the winner of The Sim Eclipse Awards Champion 2yo Turf colt 2009 and a worthy winner indeed. PREPOSTERAGEOUS(ENG) has raced 7 times, winning 6 of them and finishing 2 nd in the other and accumulating a whopping $2,809,000 in earnings. His first outing was in California in a restricted owners turf stakes over 6f which he won over a 17 strong field in a 68sp late in February. He was then bought back to racing in New York in The NOBLE SWORD Stakes 7.5f when he won well after trailing the leader till the turn and kicking on to win by nearly two length 80sp.

Given six weeks to recover, dropped back in distance to 6f for The Coventry Steaks-G2 where he lead all the way for another stylish win in a 82sp in Berkshire England.

Rested another six weeks, he was off to Victoria, Australia for a run in the G2-The Champagne Mile which he won. For his next race also in Victoria in The Golden Shoe-G1 beating a great field which included six other GW's. Back to the USA for the Breeders' Bowl Juvenile Turf-G1 where he ran second to BLACK GOLDNINER(JPN) handy all the way he just lacked the finish on the day to get the win but still ran the mile in 1:35 and a 97sp.He finished the season off in style taking out the DPCD VIII Epiphany Too Handicap -G1 8f by one and a half lengths 100sp in Maryland. OHIO THIS HARD LAND(JPN) P Cadigan 28/1

Zman Stables trained colt by DEEP IMPACT x HIGH CHAPARRAL (IRE) x CANADIAN SLEW he has raced 7 times for 3 wins and $41,718 in stakes won a msw 8f second up 79sp he won again in his forth start in a 9f dirt allowance 75sp his only dirt race failed next up over 9f The Barre Deli-Stk on turf then an 8f allowance race 88sp may be better suited to allowance racing a will find this race a very hard nut to crack. Will race just behind the pace all the way.

IRELAND CROSS KHANI(IRE) D Brownridge 29/1

Daniel Stables trained colt by CAPE CROSS (IRE) x DALAKHANI (IRE) x THE MINSTREL hard to get a line on this fellow 1 starts 1 win you can do no more than win that race was a msw 8f in Demark this year as a 3yrold may well be the Smokey of the field hard to think he can win in second outing against this opposition but bred to stay all day worth watching as the year unfolds.

LordPye] a man who puts a lot of effort into running his residency and his horses trains this colt by ROCK HARD TEN from BARB'S SINGAPORE he has raced 8 times for 2 wins and 3 places $97,755 in earnings seems to be more of an allowance horse who has won at a mile and been placed at 8.5f ran 2nd The NOBLE SWORD Stakes 7f was not placed in only graded race.
