St. Louis University White Coat Scholarship Fund
Saint Louis University was the first medical school founded in the continental United States west of the Mississippi River. Since its' inception in the late 1800's, SLU has educated countless physicians in the Jesuit tradition. SLU graduates have pioneered many new treatments and procedures over the years, including performing the first heart transplant west of the Mississippi. St. Louis University continues to lead the way in many areas of medical research, including geriatic medicine, hepatology, and the study of viruses such as HIV. The White Coat Scholarship Fund provides opportunities for medical students from lesser financial backgrounds to help fund their medical education.
