2008 EQUINICS
Grade 1 - Supranuclear Palsy
F&M 4 Years Old and up
1 Mile Turf
Race 7 on the card this Saturday afternoon in China brings together a Grade 1 field of 18 great Fillies and Mares that will cover a mile on the turf course. Morning-Line choice and #1 ranked Northern Pulp will start from post 16 as she looks to be the best of this very classy group of Grade 1 Mares.

1. REGATTA (EWC) 30/1
Stable: Simon1966 (14.2%) Jockey: D.Beisol (5%) Div Rank: 38
This 4 year old filly has seen her form go down hill over her last 4 starts since her win in the PATH TO WAR Stakes. As her 30-1 odds would suggest she is on the outside looking in against this group and she would really need to reverse her recent downslide to be able to content for on of the spots on the podium. Her upside is that she has won 12 of 34 lifetime all of which on the turf but she has yet to beat the high end Filly and Mares.

2. BURGAZADA (Minnesota) 8/1
Stable: Hamster (14.3%) Jockey: B.Ball (31%) Div Rank: 8
Has made a major impact on this division in limited action, she is a 7 time winner in 12 tries and has posted 100+ speed numbers in each of her last 7 starts including a 118 number when winning THE DR. REUBEN GARR MEMORIAL Grade 1 on the New York Circuit. She is a hard closing daughter of Danehill Dancer and will be at the mercy of the pace set by other fillies and mares. PREDICTION: Bronze

3. THE EDGE (Vermont) 16/1
Stable: Stormboot (21.6%) Jockey: A.Craig (25%) Div Rank: 116
Was beat against allowance company in her most recent in a hard closing effort, she draws a very tough group of accomplished stakes horses today and will need to be at her very best if she hopes to be on the ticket today.

4. MERLIN THE CAT (Queensland) 27/1
Stable: Biznes (8.3%) Jockey: P.Bangs (23%) Div Rank: 491
Has showed that she can come up with a big effort closing from 17th 2 back to win a Grade 1 restricted event 2 back when going 6 and a half producing a 102 speed number. the daughter of Cat Thief also found herself in the winner circle 4 back when she scored a closing win at the distance posting a 109 speed figure at more the 20-1 that day. She is a un-predictable filly that is good enough when at her best, but will she be at her best today???

5. FAUX PAS (EAAA Racing) 13/1
Stable: Mharris (19%) Jockey: H.Harzheim (28%) Div Rank: 110
has proved that she can win going long as well as sprints, she sports a 8 consecutive 100+ speed number on her card and will be close to pace early which is likely to be a good game plan in this field. A 9 time winner out of 20 starts and one of the more consistent Fillies in here I just don't think she can run with top fillies in this race if they are at their best today BUT if they falter she is as good as the rest in this group.

6. MISWAKI'S LAST (Alpine Turf Club) 13/1
Stable: Xanthu3 (13.9%) Jockey: B.Schardien (26%) Div Rank: 207
Has yet to beat stakes company in her last 8 starts but is coming off a decent alowance effort in her most recent, a step up in form is needed to contend in this race but a top 3 finish is possible with the right trip.

7. DIGGING FOR JEWELS (Kentucky Horseman) 15/1
Stable: Sls (17.6%) Jockey: P.Harzhiem (28%) Div Rank: 77
A winner in her last when facing allowance company at today distance, she has 3 stakes wins in her last 8 starts posting 107 in THE SECRET TURF CHALLENGE at today's distance, coming in off a 4 week lay-off should have her sharp for today's event with a top 3 chance slim in this group.

8. TETE OF GIBRALTAR (Ireland) 17/1
Stable: Wisbyzews (18.3%) Jockey: R.Unoz (8%) Div Rank: 281
Looks out classed in here, she has tried stakes in each of her last 8 posting just one second and 1 third place finish. She an 11 time winner that is off her game right now and looks like she can't make the grade in here

9. MALT MAID (Ohio) 20/1
Stable: Hydrogen (14.9%) Jockey: L.Denney (16%) Div Rank: 518
Comes in after winning back to back against allowance company with a mid pack rally in her most recent to post a 113 speed number. She proves that she has the speed to be a factor but has yet to have a good effort against stakes company, I peg this filly as the type that might have a future in this division but isn't ready to tackle what this field tosses her way today.

10. INFERNAL TUTOR (GR Simsters) 9/1
Stable: Lender (13.1%) Jockey: T.Small (29%) Div Rank: 21
Looked great in winning THE PROUD MARY stakes 4 back in 109 speed for the mile but disappointed against Graded company in her next 2 tries, then was unable to win a restricted stake in her most recent, she does have a graded win to her credit in her last 8 but a top 3 finish in here is unlikely.

11. TORCH THE FLAME (Delpenn) 10/1
Stable: Super7 (18.4%) Jockey: J.Stivers (32%) Div Rank: 3
Has won 10 of 28 in her life and more the 1.3 million in the bank, her wins are split between Sprints and Routes but has managed only 1 win in her last 8 around 2 turns. She is likely to employ a stocking style today and might be able to upset if she is at her very best, but she will need to be at her very best!!!

12. GAY DANCER (Benelux) 26/1
Stable: Thierry (14.3%) Jockey: L.Fontain (11%) Div Rank: 452
Longshot status for this 6 time winner, she can win against lesser but can't run with the big girls in this division. Funny things would really need to happen in order for this mare to cross the line in here after drawing in with all of these stakes winners.

13. MISS URBANE (Blazing Saddles) 26/1
Stable: Desimster2 (12.3%) Jockey: T.Loesch (29%) Div Rank: 267
Can win when she is in easier then today but has yet to prove good enough to win a Grade 1 event. This daughter of Gone West has won 7 of 23 but never against a group of Fillies and Mares like today, an outsider at best.

14. ROCK RIVER DREAMER (Great Plains) 13/1
Stable: Rockriver2 (12.2%) Jockey: T.C.Russell (6%) Div Rank: 184
A winner of 3 of her last 8 but only 1 of her last 5, earlier in the season she looked like an up and comer in the division after winning THE FURIA MEMORIAL in a 110 number, but has yet to repeat that kind of effort and seems like a top 3 finish will be unlikely today.

15. THEORY OF LOVE (Northwest Racing Circuit) 9/1
Stable: Cub (12.5%) Jockey: R.Harzheim (26%) Div Rank: 17
Snapped #1 ranked rival Northern Pulps 2 race win streak when winning the INDEPENDENCE DAY BB stakes a Grade 2 event in her most recent, she draws Northern Pulp to her outside for today's event and and is a slight underdog to her again today, this Forestry 4 year old Filly is a 7 time winner in 21 tries and has posted high speed numbers in each of her last 3 all against Graded company. I expect this filly to be close to the lead today and be able to complete the mild upset for the second time in a row.
PREDICTION: GOLD

16. NORTHERN PULP (The CR Racers) 7/1
Stable: Theogbarn (22.9%) Jockey: K.Ledwith (31%) Div Rank: 1 #1 Ranked mare has 18 wins to her credit out of 31 starts and more then 1.8 million in the bank, this is a high speed filly that has posted monster speed figures every time in her last 8, she is a very tough filly to select against I think there may be a changing of the guard in this division soon as Theory of Love is an Up and Coming Filly that beat her last week. PREDICTION: Silver

17. K'S STAND TALL (Hispano Porlante) 16/1
Stable: Sledwith (25.9%) Jockey: D.Evans (28%) Div Rank: 70 Has upset potential as she is the only filly that shows front end speed, without early challenges this is the type of filly that could go the whole way on the lead and finish better then I have rated her as 4th best

18. WASSIE'S STAR G (Rash) 10/1
Stable: Wassie (10.2%) Jockey: S.L.Ledwith (19%) Div Rank: 7 Reeled off 4 in a row before going down in her most recent failing to impact the race at all which is not like her, she has 14 wins in 30 tries and if her last start is a fluke and she goes right back to form, she is another one that can content in this field if 18.

My take on this group is that there are many that can win, but only 1 that will win and that will be Theory Of Love other imidiate contenders look to be the powerhouse Northern Pulp and Burgazada but there are any number of the other horses that can step up and contend in a very tough well matched group of Fillies and Mares, Good luck to all the connections in this event as well as all the other events here and in Vermont on EQUINICS DAY 2008
