Welcome to the 2008 Equinics! The Mayo Foundation (http://www.pasturesofgreen.com/equinics/2008/mayo.html) is the theme for this 10f race featuring 4yo+ F/M. Many thanks to all that contributed to this great event.
ASK YOUR DAD(KY) - NWRC filly in a pretty tough spot in this. She will have to break quickly to avoid being boxed in at the start. She does have some quick feet, but there are others that appear to have an edge in that department. She also will have to increase her SPs to have a shot in this.
FOLK SONG(CA) - Alpine TC enters their speed hungry filly; with hopes she can get the rail quickly and stay with what seems to be a super quick pace. She doesnt like to be headed and quits if she does. She hasnt been able to crack a win in listed stakes and this field has some graded winners in it. Shell have to be reallycute to get it done.
UNBRIDLED ROCK(KY) - Great Plains enters their Rock Hard Ten filly who was claimed for $10,000 last summer. After the claim she went on to be a winner at starter events till her tag ran out. Showing class in her allowance outs afterwards she than picked up a listed and G3 win; and placed 3rd in her G1 debut last out. Pace type runner, looking to last.
RED RIVER CROSSING(KY) - Vermont (our wonderful host(ess), enters their Rahy sired, listed stakes winning filly. Shes new to this type of event, but has put up some terrific numbers in her listed wins. She most certainly will be up front vying for the lead and if shes on, she just may take all. Shes 20 ITM with 26 starts.
BLACK TUESDAY(KY) - From the GR Simsters is one beautifully bred filly. She was a winner from the start as she broke her maiden 1st time out with an SP84. She is the progeny of a D rated he/mare who was graded placed on turf. The filly sports 4 G1s to her credit; with three of them at todays distance. Her last out at a G1 in Delaware she fired a SP111 and missed getting up by a head! Look for this gal coming out of the clouds at the wire.
MAGPIE FEVER(KY) - Ohio TR puts this former $2500 claimer in to see if she can get it done. She just missed a G2 win in her last out at 107SP!! As to whether she peaked out in that remains to be seen. If not, she has a real shot at a photo. Her style is to stay fairly close to the pace and she has a decent move in the stretch. With the speed in this, thats an advantage.
K'S ESKAPE - Hispano Parlante enters their 6yo mare by Mineshaft. She was a graded winner as a 2yo and didnt pick up another until the current year. She has multiple listed stakes wins and is a distance specialist. Her best efforts come at 9-9.5f and has a little trouble beyond that. However, she always gives her all, and anything can happen if others are off a bit. Shes speedy and will be the pace or close to it.
TO LIVE IS TO DIE(KY) - Blazing Saddles entry. This filly was claimed for $2000 early in her 3yo season. The trainer waited patiently for her to mature and was most certainly rewarded. Shes a listed stakes winner and just missed the G1 win at NY a couple back. Shes a little inconsistent, but when on her game; look out!
DISASTERPIECE(KY) - From DelPenn, this scratch bred filly by Mineshaft is coming off a valiant G1 win in her last at Delaware against two rivals competing in this same event. She challenged the lead at 7f and held off a ferocious charge at the end for the win! With only 13 starts and 6 wins, she appears to be one of DelPenns (and the sims) up coming stars.
ZANPAKUTOH(KY) - The Irish bring this Kingmambo filly to compete and shes on her way to becoming a big deal amongst her peers. With only 16 starts, she has 7 Ws beside her name. One of them happens to be graded; her last out. Shes hot right now and likes the distance. Shes a mid-pack type and may get the jump on some of the late closing contenders.
ANGEL FROM ABOVE - RASH brings one of the matriarchs of the field to this event. Claimed as a 3yo for $5000, shes kind of a plodder that likes it longer. Shes performed well in her class from 10 to 14f, but will find this to be a bit too much.
FUSAICHI KRISSY - Minnesota entry. The second of the matriarchs appears to be better suited for this field. Shes placed and won graded before, and is lightly raced so as to have some zip left to play with. Pretty much stifled by traffic in her last G1 try, she really didnt finish that bad. The only problem is she will have to negotiate the crowd again. If the jock can keep her out of the way of gagging speedsters, she has a chance to pick up a check.
SISTER DEW(KY) - Benelux entry. Tale of the Cat scratch bred filly looking to regain the form that lifted her to two graded wins last year. Hasnt run a 100+SP as a 4yo as yet. Likes the front but will have company that appears faster. She probably would like it a bit shorter.
WESTERN IDOL(AUS) - EWC enters this filly who hasnt been around for very long. She has only 12 starts, 4 of them Ws. Its difficult to rate her class as she is just starting to pop 100SPs. Shes another speedy type that doesnt give enough info as to how shell handle this large field. Has potential.
ROSE CROWN - Kentucky Horsemen bring another speedball to the event already overfilled with speed. This mare has one listed stakes win at the distance and is attempting to regain the form she had at the beginning of 2008. From her post she will need a good break from the gate, and lots of rate from the jock.
DIXIE PARK - CR Racers bring this 5yo mare by Dixieland Band. She had gone through her conditions nicely as a 3-4yo and finally took a 10f stakes race her 1st time out as a 5yo this January. Two races after the win she won a G3 at CA and then won the G1 My Girl Hdcp 5 weeks later. Her last two outs after those big efforts have been so-so, but she appears to be rounding into form. Shes another with a closing kick.
PITCHAFIT(IRE) - Queensland which is loaded with turfers, gives this filly the call for this dirt event. After running some mediocre turf races; this gal has done some serious racing at todays distance on the brown. Sadly, she drew a horrible post and will not only have to contend with a class jump, but just trying to get in some decent position to avoid traffic.
