Sixteen Fillies In Heifer International
A mix of speed and closers makes for an interesting Equinics race

By- Crush83

Heifer has learned over the years that a holistic approach is necessary in order to build sustainable communities. So weve developed a set of global initiatives areas of emphasis that must be addressed if were to meet our mission of ending world hunger and poverty and caring for the earth. Seventeen older fillies and mares will go postward today to show their support of Heifer International. The race was supposed to have seventeen starters but EWCs entrant missed the plane to China and will have to sit this one out. This grade 1 race named for this organization will be run over ten furlongs on the grass in China, and is scheduled to be run as the sixth race of sixteen.

Team Rash has selected babycolts Justdoyourthing a seven year old English bred Sakee mare, out of Kouta a Seattle Slew mare. In fifty-four starts she has won ten times, place nineteen and come in third another ten times. Can you say seconditis? A listed stakes winner at the age of three, she has most recently won an Allowance at this distance restricted to horses that had not won twice in the last six months. In that race she posted a career high 109, with her running style shell be pressing the pace and hoping not to tire. L Denney picks up the mount, with a 16% win clip, and odds of 14/1

The Great Plains will be represented by fab19s Getaloadofthis a six year old Kentucky bred mare by Distorted Humor out of an unknown El-Mana-Mou mare. One of the more experienced mares in the field with forty six starts, she has won nineteen of them, coming in second eleven times, and third seven. She too is experienced in the Equinics, back in 2006 she competed in the 14f event for older fillies and mares, finishing fourth. A grade two winner, most of her wins come at 10.5 furlongs or longer, but is multiple grade one placed at this distance. A 109 is her career best, with a 108 being her best this year in her only win at the beginning of the year. She will be up front, but not on the lead, with all of the speed in this race she could find herself either further back than she likes, or going to fast too soon. Winning at a 28% clip D Evans will get the leg up, and head post-ward at 10/1.

Representing Minnesota will be chuckrocks Just Before Again, a Pennsylvania bred five year old mare by Justbeforemidnite out of an unknown Awesome Again mare. She has accumulated eleven wins, six places, and o ne show in twenty seven trips to the gate. She has won a grade 3 once, at nine furlongs posting her best speed figure of 108. She has never won beyond 9.5 furlongs, but will try to get that extra half furlong today. If shes going to be live today look for her to be upclose to the pace, only 2-3 lengths from the front. At 18/1 T Loesch has been given the call, hes been winning 29% of his races.

The Northwest Racing Circuit has entered usozs Tengeline, a four year Kentucky bred daughter of Theatrical an unknown Fappiano mare into the race. In eighteen tries she has finished first five times, second four times, and third once. An average multiple allowance winner, two races back she stunned her first listed stake field with a 7/1 upset winning with a career best 108, which was 9 points better than she had ever run before. However she is another lead loving filly, which will make it hard for her to hang on at the end, with several other mares vying for the lead. G Darby, a low hitting 7% winning jock picks up the mount on the 25/1 shot.

Representing the CR Racers is artistways Tommy an odd name for a six year old Kentucky bred daughter of Danzig out of an unknown Nijinsky II mare. In twenty eight trips to the starting gate she has found the winners circle eleven times, placing five and finishing third four other times, accumulating earnings of over $1.2 million. Tommy is no stranger to the Equinics, she ran in the mile turf race for older fillies and mares back in 2006, she finished second missing the win by a length . Tommy is a grade 2 winner at nine furlongs, but her best speed figure of 111 came two years ago in a restricted allowance, but is still running 107s to win. She is another horse who hasnt won at this distance, shell be closing in on the front runners at the end. At 8/1 H Harzheim (28% winner) gladly accepts the call from artistway.

Representing Vermont is Sissons Miner, a Kentucky bred four year old daughter of Mineshaft, out of Danicka Anne a Danzig mare, owned and trained by taztiger. She has won nine times, placed seven and finished third four times in twenty five starts earning over a half of a million dollars. She is a two time grade 3 winner at eleven furlongs, with career high speed figures of 110. Five of her nine wins have come at eleven furlongs, but she is capable of winning at shorter distances. Shell be closing at the end, hoping that the speedsters falter for her to pass them by. As one of the favorites at 8/1 B Ward gets the call, which is a surprise since he only wins at a 5% clip.

EAAA racing has entered astinator5s Jena Berlin, a four year old Japanese bred daughter of King Kamehameha out of an unknown Danehill mare. In twenty one starts, she has won ten times, placed four, and finished third three times. Only 6 of those ten starts are classified as NMCOS wins, but before you toss her out, shes at the best of her game now, coming off of a grade two win at this distance last time out. A 107 in a listed stake at 11 furlongs is her best figure, but she did win the grade 2 with a 106. She likes to be near the lead, but not on it, as long as she times her move well she could be a contender. Jockey B Ball who has been winning 31% of his mounts will be in the saddle on this 11/1 shot.

The Blazing Saddles entrant is tesios Wicked Wench, an Irish bred five year old daughter of Montjeu out of an unknown Blushing Groom mare. In twenty six starts, she has won twelve of them, finishing second in six other attempts. She is a grade one winner at three, and a two time winner of the Yabba Dabba Doo grade 2. A 110 in last years Yabba Dabba Doo grade 2 is her best speed figure. She comes into this race off of a very poor finish, but the ground was not to her liking. She is a semi versatile mare being able to run on the lead, or a few lengths off it. If she can bounce back from that last race she could be in mix. Twenty-nine percent winning jock T Small saw something in Wicked Wench that the oddsmakers didnt as they made her 16/1.

The feared GR Simsters has chosen buffy8s The Witching Hour to represent them in this race. The Witching Hour is a four year old Japanese bred filly by Fantastic Light out of Baku a Danzig mare. This filly is one of those all or nothing horses, winning nine times, and showing twice in sixteen tries. She is a grade one winner at nine furlongs, and a grade two winner at this distance, her best speed figure came in her grade one win with a 107, but also ran that in a listed stake at this distance. This is another filly who is always on the lead, shes not made it to the lead four times, and during those trips she did not win. She loves to open up on the field, but with other proven front runners that may be tough, and should create a speedy race. K Ledwith, another 31% winning jockey picks up the mount on the one of the 2nd choices at 8/1.

The Kentucky Horsemen have chosen ashmens Australian bred Internet Ready to represent them. Internet Ready is a four year old daughter of Catbird out of an unknown Royal Roberto mare. In thirty one tries she has won seven times, placed six and20third twice. This girl is a multiple allowance winner, which has never even run in a stake before. She likes to close, and has a career best speed figure of 106, but that was at a mile, and has not won beyond 9 furlongs before. L Fontain (11%) will try to turn this 16/1 filly around and get her into the winners circle.

Ohio will send out thebandits Two Up, a four year old Kentucky bred Vindication filly out of an unknown Lear Fan mare. She has run twenty five times and has five wins and places, as well as seven thirds to her credit. Two Up is a multiple allowance winner, with only one stakes try to her credit last year as a three year old. She is a front runner, with a career best speed figure of 99. A good filly in her own right, will find it hard to compete with the hardened stakes winners with more speed. As the co-longshot at 33/1 Two Up picks up P Bangs a jockey who wins at 23% which is better than some of the favored horses jockeys in the field.

The Alpine Turf Club has selected miserys Cache to represent them in the race today. Cache is a five year old South African bred daughter of Horse Chestnut out of an unknown Seeking The Gold mare. In thirty tries she has won five times, come in second seven and third eight. She is a grade one winner at this distance, but that was two years ago, and she is winless in over a year, her last win came on March 10, 2007 in a grade 2 going 12 furlongs. Her career best speed figure was run this year finishing second in a grade 2 at this distance with a 105. So while she may not be winning, she may be coming back into form. With her liking to close this may be the race for her to find herself again as I think a speed duel up front may cause for the front runners to slow down enough in the last furlong for a closer to take the race. P Harzheim, brother to the other Harzheim jockeys in this race wins at a 28% clip and will try to bring this 13/1 shot home first.

Delpenn will send out sdmf6s Stricken, a five year old Kentucky bred daughter of Dynaformer out of Skinny Cat a Rubiano mare. She has run thirty-five times in the past winning eight of those races, placing twelve times and finishing third five times. Stricken is grade three placed where she ran a career high speed figure of 113, losing by a short nose. In her last start she closed to be second in a restricted race at this distance. Her closing style makes her appealing in the race since there is a lot of speed, but she is facing some proven graded winners that have been winning recently. The oddsmakers have made her the 7/1 favorite with B Schardein a 26% winning jock up in the saddle.

Representing team Benelux is landen1s Stayer, an Irish bred, Kentucky foaled five year old daughter of El Prado out of an unknown Roberto mare. In twenty five tries she has won nine, placed six and finished third five times. A multiple listed stakes winner, she has won at this 0Adistance in the past, but her best speed figure of 110 came from a 9f race. This filly is all speed, if shes not on the lead shes in trouble. Never has she not been first at the first call. There will be other speed in this race as well, so it could cause a heated speed duel up front. The last of the Harzheim jocks (R Harzheim, 26%) picks up the mount on the 11/1 shot.

Queensland has selected austrailias Hello I Love You, a four year old English bred daughter of Green Desert out of an unknown Machiavellian mare. In twenty six trips to the track she has found the winners circle ten times, and finished second four times, and third five times. She is a multiple listed stakes winner, with a 108 being her career best speed figure. She is yet another filly who loves distance, and loves to wire the field, she has a maiden and an allowance non winners of two lifetime at this distance to her credit. Shell be in the thick of it early, but will she be there in the end? Out of all of J Stivers offers the best jockey (by win perecentage, of 32%) has agreed to ride Hello I Love You at 11/1.

Hispano Paralante will be represented by sledwith2s Ks Masterpiece, a four year old Kentucky bred Ghostzapper filly out of an unknown Nijinsky II mare. This filly is a hard hitter, running sixteen times, winning twelve of those and finishing second three other times. Last year she faltered once at this distance finishing sixth, but 15 of 16 in the top two is very impressive. She is a grade one winner at this distance with a career high speed figure of 109, all earned in her last race. She is yet another filly that goes for the lead, but can rate slightly off the pace if need be, which seeing all of the speed in this race, may be a good idea. Trying to stretch it out to five wins in a row Z Kentucky (22% win) will guide this 11/1 shot around the track.

Team Ireland sends out Irishbred Grand Temptation from the stayirish barn. Grand Temptation is a four year old daughter of Grandera, out of Yieldtotemptation by Sadlers Wells. In twenty starts she has won seven times, placed twice and finished third three times. A grade three winner at a mile and a half her best speed figure is a 107 earned in a listed 11 furlong event last year. In 2008 she has yet to win, or post a speed figure in the triple digits. Generally she comes from well off the pace, but has been up close before and won as well. Grand Temptation will have to step it up to be competitive with this field. Rounding out the field, and the last one to the track with A Reed up, a 20% winning jock she will be the co-longshot at 33/1.

I believe with the multiple speed favoring entrants in the race, the finish time should be fast, and it should set up for a closer after the front runners duel themselves into the ground. Best of luck to all, especially Tommy who represents the CR Racers. May your horses run their best, and return to their barns safely!
